Chocolate Chip Lactation Cookies

A nourishing newborn-season cookie with oats, brewer’s yeast, and plenty of chocolate chips.

A dear friend first baked and gifted me homemade lactation cookies, and they quickly became a freezer, refrigerator, and countertop staple in our newborn seasons—especially during those late-night nursing sessions.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup turbinado sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon brewer’s yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine butter, both sugars, and vanilla.
  3. Add the eggs and mix thoroughly.
  4. Mix in baking soda, brewer’s yeast, and sea salt.
  5. Slowly add flour, followed by the oats.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips. If the dough seems runny, add up to 1/2 cup more oats.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes, checking on the early side.
  8. Enjoy!
