Chocolate Chip Lactation Cookies
A nourishing newborn-season cookie with oats, brewer’s yeast, and plenty of chocolate chips.
A dear friend first baked and gifted me homemade lactation cookies, and they quickly became a freezer, refrigerator, and countertop staple in our newborn seasons—especially during those late-night nursing sessions.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup turbinado sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon brewer’s yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Combine butter, both sugars, and vanilla.
- Add the eggs and mix thoroughly.
- Mix in baking soda, brewer’s yeast, and sea salt.
- Slowly add flour, followed by the oats.
- Fold in chocolate chips. If the dough seems runny, add up to 1/2 cup more oats.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, checking on the early side.
- Enjoy!
